Wasteland

“I find it extremely hard to sum up what I do and why I do it in words.”
After procuring a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and experimenting with animation, Anjana Kothamachu joined the Rachna Sansad in Mumbai to learn how to draw.
She earned her diploma in fine-arts and got awarded a Residency program with ‘Last Ship’ by Julius Mcwan (Mumbai), ensued by another with The Future Foundation (Switzerland) which culminated in exhibitions.

“ I had an opportunity to meet artists and intern under them. All this has shaped my understanding of the visual arts. Being a fine-artist was not a goal that I had planned. It was a journey that unfolded itself. It is hard to pinpoint my source of inspiration; it’s from literature, music, philosophers and popular culture.

Some of her works include ‘Down the rabbit hole’, ‘Wasteland’, ‘Lady with an egg’ and ‘Wreathe’.

“The universe is a story of our own creation, a desired fantasy in a lived actuality. The ‘Self’ is elusive- It lives and perishes through the body. It is an assemblage of various subjective experiences and events which form the yarn for spinning my artistic tale. It helps me explore and communicate one’s fears and fascinations thus revealing nuances to facilitate aesthetic experiences.”
