Nepal-

“When it gets bigger, it gets better”. But the point worth a ponder is that it takes your toe to create a sound that pleases, especially when it comes to rock where there are billions of bands like saplings in a lavish landscape. The sound of ‘THE UGLYZ’ bears sheer contrast to their music as it is far more beautiful and full of intricate and minute accuracy and tide notes.
Hailing from Kathmandu, Nepal, a place well known for the milestone of Great Mount Everest, is this bunch of people who kicked off the musical journey back in 1995 when ‘The Uglyz’ was formed by Sarun, Sudip & Rockin in 1995 during school days. The name was derived from a band these guys used to appreciate- ‘Ugly Guys’.
With Sarun Tamrakar (Singer/Song Writer/Producer, Guitar,Piano), Sudip Tamrakar (Lead Guitar, Song Writer), Rockin Shrestha (Drums), Nirajan Rai (Bass) and Sachen Bajracharya (Piano), the band loves classic rock and blues. They produce Soft Rock music with the deepest meaning musically/lyrically possible. It certainly gives an impression that they love to think outside the box and create something fresh and exciting to our listeners.

“Since the starting of the band in 1995’ we always wanted to deliver quality music to our listeners. We are very picky in writing and producing songs. We could possibly sit together and write songs for 2-3 years but we do not cut an album till it sounds and feels perfect to all of the band members”, tells Sarun Tamrakar .

“I write/compose most of the songs and the process is very simple: if I write a tune and I cannot remember it after a week then it is no good for me. Once I am happy with the tune I share it with Sudip (Lead guitarist) and if he doesn’t like it then the song will go straight into vault. It’s very hard to impress Sudip but the man has got good ears!” adds Sarun.

When asked for the inspiration, names depend upon who’s answering. Sarun savors The Beatles, Sudip- Led Zeppelin, Rockin believes the sound of Deep Purple with Nirajan following Nirvana and The Doors inspire Sachen.

They are thankful to the internet as it has made them possible to practice for gigs online and discuss ideas as Sarun & Nirajan reside in Sydney and rest of the boys are in Nepal.

With ‘The Uglyz’ having released 2 albums till date namely “Rush” (2005), “in Transit” (2011), what adds a feather to their cap is the fact that their debut album was one of the largest selling album in 2005 and won numerous awards in Nepal including “Best New Artist of the Year”
With a cemented mindset of enjoying and living life and not take things too seriously, they believe in continuing as long as their audiences enjoy their creation.
